This morning Coaches Ant and James Phillips headed to Ringwood to tackle the P311 Ringwood-Sopley Time Trial course.
10 miles of sitting on that nasty red line on what turned out to be a very “rumbly” stretch of road where chattering teeth drowned out the heavy breathing.
Both of the lads wanted to use this one as a chance to test out their winter of training.
Coach Ant in particular at the end of last year rode his pb (20:34) and hit 330w over this distance and was hoping that even though the season was only just getting started and even with a lack of racing practise he would hit numbers very close to this.
In the end, he rode a 22:48 and 334w. James on the other hand rode 23:12 and 309w.
The times reflected what was a very challenging course (even though the elevation was pan flat).
But it is safe to say that both of them had very good rides today, riding to goal powers and setting themselves up for the year ahead.
We encourage all of our riders to get involved in Time Trials, they are a fantastic way to test out your fitness level over a shorter distance. Plus there are so many locally and most evenings there is one in the New Forest, that you may as well have a go!
No fancy kit required, just a bike, helmet and a pair of legs (and maybe a strong mind too!)
Check out Coach Ant in action below.
In his words:
“It was a tough day today, the road conditions were pretty rough, I struggled in the open half as it was chilly to start with and I couldn’t quite hit my numbers. But once I made the turnaround, I found my legs and the numbers started to come.
The final mile was really tough but in terms of pacing I nailed it today, a stronger second half which is always a good sign!”
